Mutua de Accidentes de Canarias (MAC) is a Social Security partner organization that is a leader in occupational health and financial benefits management. Its staff includes doctors, nurses, and administrative personnel who are responsible for providing healthcare coverage and support to thousands of mutual insurance policyholders in the Canary Islands, in a highly demanding environment subject to public regulations and strict confidentiality requirements.

The arrival of the pandemic posed a historic challenge: to accelerate the digitization of its services in record time, to provide continuity of care to its patients remotely, to ensure that the management and payment of benefits were not interrupted, and to do all this under the umbrella of the National Security Scheme (ENS). The operational pressure on the IT department was immense, facing high demand for innovative, secure solutions that ensured regulatory compliance.

MAC entrusted Intelequia with the management of its infrastructure on Azure. The joint project included:

  • Complete migration to Microsoft Azure and deployment of virtual desktops, with an agile, transparent process and no interruptions for users.
  • Development of advanced AI solutions with Intelewriter, enabling internal intelligent agents for user support, consultation of ENS regulations, and improvement of clinical and functional patient management.
  • Continuous monitoring and support (24x7) with an expert team, aimed at anticipating incidents, optimizing processes, and facilitating the integration of new developments.
  • Implementation and adaptation of security and confidentiality management measures, which are essential in the healthcare sector, with all data protected within its own Microsoft 365 tenant.

Accelerated transformation and resilience

The implementation of virtual desktops on Microsoft Azure made it possible to digitize and ensure operational and healthcare continuity for thousands of mutual society members and employees in record time. Remote working and telemedicine were rolled out quickly and transparently, keeping all services active even at the most critical moments of the pandemic and making MAC a benchmark for healthcare adaptation.

Thanks to intelligent agents and conversational tools, clinical and administrative management has been optimized: staff can quickly resolve internal incidents, access key information, and doctors can instantly consult regulations, procedures, or relevant clinical data, streamlining decision-making and facilitating patient care, especially in situations where doctors are on leave.

All technological infrastructure and artificial intelligence solutions were deployed and managed in MAC's own Microsoft 365 tenant, complying with the highest security and health standards (ENS). This has ensured the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of data, giving both the organization and its members complete peace of mind and guaranteeing the proper management of critical information.
