The hybrid computing revolution with Windows 365 is here!
Microsoft Inspire 2021, the most important annual event for Partners, has not gone unnoticed by any of the attendees. After announcing the launch of the new Windows 365 Cloud PC service, Redmond wanted to set a disruptive precedent for personal and business computing to boost and promote work solutions in the cloud.
But what exactly is this service? Let's see
What is Windows 365?
Windows 365 is Microsoft's new operating system that runs in the cloud. This new service will allow us to connect to our Windows 10 or Windows 11 from anywhere and regardless of our devices, including Mac, iPad, Linux and Android; while enjoying all applications, data or settings virtually as if we did it from our personal or corporate desktop.
Inspired by Azure virtual desktops, Windows 365 wants to simplify the virtualization experience for the user allowing to control all kinds of details in an easy and intuitive way, from which will be accessed through a remote desktop program or an HTML5 browser.
Windows 365 features and benefits:
1) Scalability and flexibility are among the main advantages offered by Windows 365, allowing users to configure the size, CPU and RAM of their PC in the cloud according to their needs, thus virtualizing their sessions on servers. This versatility will be a direct benefit for all users and IT departments, being able to expand or reduce their processing and storage capacity.
2) Simplicity. Easy management and instant start-up give users the ability to work in the same way they left their previous sessions without the need for previous virtualization experience. IT departments can continue to manage, deploy or deploy the configuration of any PC in the same way they have done before.
3) Security. Microsoft wanted to develop with W365, a service that integrates the maximum security guarantees for end users and corporations, supported by the principles of Zero Trust with which to host the information in the cloud and not on devices taking advantage of the full potential offered by security solutions in Azure, in addition to integrating two-factor authentication for greater security assurance.
The migration and work towards the cloud, will allow many organizations to avoid security breaches on their data and resources hosted on local computers, being easily vulnerable to security attacks.
As Satya Nadella, president and CEO of Microsoft said during his presentation at Inspire "just as applications were brought to the cloud with SaaS, we are now bringing the operating system to the cloud, to provide businesses with greater flexibility and a secure way to empower their work teams to be more productive and connected regardless of their location".
Is Windows 365 compatible with other Microsoft applications?
Yes! Windows 365 is compatible with your other Microsoft 365 business applications, (such as Word, Planner or SharePoint), with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform and all company solutions.
Windows 365 Pricing, Plans and Release:
Windows 365 is expected to be officially available to all organizations on August 2 under a monthly per-user subscription model.
So far Microsoft has not detailed more information about its subscription plans, it is known that the operating system is designed for businesses of any size, from single-person to large corporations. however, it is estimated that one of the simplest units, with 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage intended for more sporadic and limited use of Microsoft 365 and Adobe Reader programs, will cost $31 per month.
Long live the PC
It goes without saying that Windows 365 will be a revolution for companies in terms of reducing equipment costs, extending the useful life of computers by allowing them to work with multiple devices.
